Godwoken

Adventures continue in Divinity Original Sin II with my husband – we managed to escape Fort Joy, had a living ship sail us around (which reminded me VERY MUCH of Robin Hobbs books), and visited the underworld or some such before we were spat back out on a much larger map. We rescued a little baby chick from some void creatures, and then they killed the entire flock of chickens EXCEPT for this evil-ish one, so now I’m leading around a wee tiny void chicken.

Gotta say, this game is enjoyable for the stories, that’s for sure. We’re playing on story mode so there isn’t much chance that we’ll actually die from anything (though we did, once) and I’m comfortable with that. It’s a great way to spend an hour or two together in the evenings when the kids are asleep.

The Couple that Games Together

Me and my husband met back in EverQuest II many years ago. We lived long distance, so we gamed together. It’s what strengthened our relationship, and while neither of us has the time we used to, we still try really hard to get some game time in together.

These days we’re not playing MMOs together any more – but we’ve started playing Divinity Original Sin II – something I’ve had in my library for some time, but never really put any time towards. So far, it is fantastic. The story is interesting, and there are so many options and secrets and little hidden quirks to find out. We’ve just made our way past the very first chapter, and I can’t wait to see what else there is in store.

Caught in a Storm

I got caught out in a tsunami in Valheim and it was INTENSE. It’s not just because the raft is an awkward weird ship to try to sail, but the waves were gigantic and I kept thinking any moment I was going to get smashed against the nearby rocks. Thankfully, I managed to ‘park’ along the shore and get myself to safety without any further issues.

Wobbledogs

I have to thank Arislyn for this suggestion – today I picked up Wobbledogs from steam. It’s a quirky little game where you mix and match the genetics from various types of dogs, and they spawn eggs that you hatch into new dogs. They have a pretty short life span, and they.. explode.. into little mutant doggy pieces that you can er, order the other dogs to.. eat. Or you can just throw the pieces away. Sometimes the dogs have genetic mutations that require a bit of help because they can’t actually feed themselves. I had one who could only butt scoot around the floor instead of actually walking. You can pet them, praise them, and.. throw them.

If it wasn’t for the over the top cartoon nature of this game I might believe it’s more sinister than it comes across, especially since my kids were hanging around cooing over the animals – but it was a hilarious delight, and a good time waster. I do think the price is a bit over the top for this sort of game play, but if you pick it up on sale then it’s not too bad.

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Down Goes Boss #1

The Combat Wombats managed to get together in the morning so that we were mostly all at the same place at the same time – to take down the very first big bad boss in Valheim. It was a giant elk, and we actually managed it without too much trouble aside from the one time that I was just casually sitting on the ground during combat because my kids needed something (I was subsequently smushed) and then that other time where immediately following the kill we were ambushed by the weird creatures that live in the dark woods. You know the glowing eyes I’m talking about. I think Arislyn, Scopique, and myself were the victims of that attack.

We had to kill the boss a number of times so that we each had a component to make a fancy new pickaxe, and now we can upgrade a few things. Like maybe our base, it still looks like we’ve put that together with toothpicks. I know Arkenor has been doing some exploration, I think he’s searching for the merchant that should be .. somewhere. I looted some coins, so I’m anxious to see what I can purchase.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Valheim? Valheim!

This game came out of no where – and I’m loving it so far. Valheim is an exploration / survival game, but the theme is viking culture. You can play single player or co-op with up to 10 friends. The Combat Wombats have a server set up and we’ve been working towards getting geared to defeat the first boss so we can unlock the next tier of items. We have a small base that we’ve been trying to set up. Right now there’s a lovely camp fire for roasting meat, some beds (not too close to that fire now) and a bit away I’ve set up some bees.

The game has a lot to do and there are a lot of skills to work on if you want. I haven’t played for that long (yet) but I expect I’ll explore it fully over the next few weeks. It’s also early access right now, so I expect some great things for the future. It also is up to over 30,000 reviews at Overwhelmingly Positive – not bad, for a game that just released February 2nd.

Bring on the adventures!

Where did all the Oxygen go

I started playing Oxygen Not Included for the first time this week after it went on sale. I’ve heard a lot about this game, and I’ve watched quite a few streams on it – but had held off purchasing it because let’s face it, I already own RimWorld.

I don’t enjoy the game quite as much, I think both games are still very different, with different concepts, mods, and gameplay. The top down view of RimWorld is still my preference compared to the ‘ant view’ side cut of ONI. Still, it has been fun to play, and I did get it at a bargain at least.

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Ruinarch

If you’ve ever played RimWorld before, then you may want to follow along with the development of Ruinarch where you basically play the evil overlord of a D&D campaign trying to kill off all of the players through various means. It’s still in EA and needs a lot of work, but the potential is there for great things.

Quail Cove Continued

This week I returned to a little Wurm Online, my Vynora priest is doing well – grinding channeling (yuck) and my ‘main’ character continued to work on my home base. I have one floor left, and it’s not a complete ‘floor’ that I need to do, so much as two sections of towers, and then a roof. Once that’s done I’ll bash out the ladders separating sections, and I can focus on adding a base floor, and furniture. Exciting stuff!

With the main house complete, all I have remaining on my plan is two more towers, and then rope bridges connecting those towers. I do plan on building myself a water cave entrance to the deed, but I’m not in any great rush for that. I love how it’s all coming together!

Welcome to Harmony

Today was the steam launch of Wurm Online – and along with it came a brand new server. There were definitely some hiccups, but for me, personally, things were very smooth.

Since I already have characters on Wurm I decided NOT to use the steam client. There’s really no difference between the two game play wise. You can’t use the steam client to log in old characters, though you can use either the old client or the steam one to play on any server with a new character. Does that make sense?

So I logged in to Golden Valley (the tutorial zone), passed through the magical portal to Harmony (PvE server) and immediately set off to raise my body skill to 1.5 and my alignment to 1.0 so that I could talk to the NPC in the chapel and become a follower of Vynora.

No real issues with any of that.

Afterwards I tried to get another character in game, and it turned out that there were some throttling issues going on, so it took quite a bit of time. My priest character will be joining a large market village and working towards skills that are preferred for a priest, and my second character is just to establish a little village for myself, nothing fancy. It’s hard NOT to set up a deed in Wurm I’ve found.

I eventually stumbled into the perfect area on the East Coast. A little bay with mountain, sand, trees, and clay all right on deed. SCORE!

I can’t wait to get it set up. I’m not expecting to make anything too fancy, but we’ll see how it goes. I also haven’t unlocked any affinity skills yet, or raised any skills that high yet, but it will come with time, I’m sure.
